CHAIR:
SCOPE
The
charge of this subcommittee is to develop and maintain a clear research agenda
for the committee. The research agenda will take the form of
a
structured and prioritized listing of existing and emerging research issues,
each of which will be discussed at a level of detail that adequately and
specifically articulates its purpose to practitioners, academics, and policy
makers. The research agenda will be revisited by the subcommittee periodically
(no less than twice a year) and updates will be made as deemed appropriate.
The
subcommittee will also (a) Poll committee members using a systematic procedure
to select 3-4 top research topics from the agenda each year, (b) Channel the
human resources and contacts of the committee to identify promising funding
sources (such as NCHRP/TCRP, pooled-funding sources, NSF, etc.) for
transportation modeling-related research, (c) Use the members of the Committee
who are liaisons of other TRB committees to facilitate collaboration (if
appropriate) in the 3-4 research topics of interest, (4) Customize and format
the research topics for submission as problem statements to funding sources, (5)
Develop guiding principles for an action plan of planned events and activities
in the short term (next 2-3 years) and in the longer term (beyond 3 years) to
work toward achieving the research agenda, and (6) Prepare calls for papers for
annual TRB meeting sessions, collaborating with other TRB committees as
appropriate.
